GMO Corn Incident Leads to Fines, Trade Issues

Corn.jpgBetween 2001 and 2004, biotech company Syngenta accidentally released seeds from an unapproved strain of genetically-modified corn into the domestic and European supplies. Last Friday, the US Department of Agriculture slapped Syngenta with a $375,000 fine for the transgression, and the company will be required to sponsor a compliance traning conference. There may also be fines from the EPA.
It gets worse; the European Union Executive Commission is talking about an end to all imports of biotech animal feed from the US because of the incident. Read more at Reuters.
