Given last week’s surge in oil prices at the pump, more Americans can be counted on to explore hybrid vehicle options. Toyota plans to capitalize on this development by introducing a hybrid option for every model they make by 2010. Toyota President, Katsuaki Watanabe, recently made this announcement as part of Toyota’s plan to become a socially and environmentally responsible corporation.

In addition to putting more hybrid vehicles on the market, Toyota has expressed intent to create a manufacturing plant in Mississippi that is a “model of sustainable practices.” Toyota is also currently developing cellulosic ethanol and lithium-ion batteries for other types of alternative transportation vehicles.
This is a very positive development for the green car industry. Hopefully, Toyota will introduce plug-in hybrid models in the near future as well.

I wish there was a hybrid station wagon – something like the Subaru Outback – available.
