As breakthrough happen time and over, the realization of all LED illumination on road is possible now. It saves much more energy than what we have expected. We are using unique heat sinking systems to maintain the temperature to as low as 50°, which can achieve great performance we have ever seen.

Great Article, thanks for sharing. Streetlights and other other lighting across the globe consume up to 20% of total electrical energy produced. In the United States 22% of electricity consumed is used for lighting.

A quick glance at a satellite image of the lit-up earth outlining the continents of the world easily show the energy demand civilization imposes on the night. It isn't simply a matter of switching a burned out light bulb for another type. Put hopefully municipalities will see that once that is done, as you say, the maintenance is nearly non-existent and LED's are much more efficient. It's just getting them over that initial hurdle.

There is still a large expense converting from HPS (or whatever technology the municipality is using) to LED.

Large capital expense? What about the almost non-existent maintenance? At a minimum all cities should at least be replacing burned out units with LED fixtures.

“Still, many municipalities are wary of moving into LED technology due to the large capital expense of LED’s combined with what some see as an unproven technology.”

Large capital expense?
