Chorkie, I know I’m half a year late, but Go Green Tube helps people that would otherwise be too busy, or lazy, to make a difference. You might have noticed that GGT has already gathered 6000+ Carbon Credits, that counts for a lot.
It is a gimmick in the sense that they need to draw inactive people somehow, and this seems to work fine.

I remember when they launched last year. At least I think it was them. Maybe they re-launched this summer.
Anyway, thought it was going to be very difficult to compete in the video sharing space considering the comp. Very crowded, and even YouTube can’t figure out how to make money. I like the gesture with the carbon offset and reinforcing behavior. I hope they can make it work. They’re on my list of sites to cover.

No, of course it’s not a youtube thing, the point is telling people they can offset a pound of carbon by watching a video is so mindlessly dumb it makes me want to buy a hummer. It’s great that people are producing green content, but I don’t like gimmicks.

Chorkie, are you thinking this is a Youtube offshoot? It’s not, and I think, even without the carbon offset, to have a place where green content is the focus, covering many different topics and areas of interest, is a valueable, valid contribution. To add carbon offsets as part of the package is a sensible integration that is in line with what they are offering, and in my book, generous.
If it were “Buy a bowl of Lucky Charms, save the planet” then yes, I’d agree.

I really hate these gimmicks, why can’t YouTube just show more “green” content?? This reminds of that bs campaign where you answer questions and the put grains of rice in a bowl— it’s just an ad split! Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but are people really this dumb?
