When we performed energy efficiency upgrades to the National Geographic Society headquarters in Washington D.C. - the first to achieve LEED EB certification - the value of those buildings increased by $24 million, resulting in a better credit rating and lower loan rates for the Society. The New Buildings Institute estimates that the appraised value of a building can increase by as much as ten times the annual cost savings from energy efficiency measures, which, of course, can also have a positive impact on surrounding property values.
