All of the chemicals that are used make for higher yields but extremely unsafe yields, at that. Unfortunately, big business is all about higher yields, not what is safe to eat. I personally farm organic on our micro-farm because my wife and I don't want chemicals in our food or the food that we sell at farmers markets or to restaurants. Plus, and just as important, it's much better for the earth.

That’s a good question, Walter. The reason I ask is that yields were never as good as when farmers started using artificial, fossil-fuel based fertilizers.

Concerning orgainic farming, if all cropland were to switch to sustainable organic farming, would crop yields drop from current levels?
