Much as Marcel Duchamp up-ended and redefined art by putting the power in the hands of the artist (ie. art was art based upon the artist defining it as such), through social media, the consumer is shifting and redefining the media relationship and claiming their power. The nature of interactivity and accountability inherent in social media dictates an entirely new skill set for media and the businesses/clients they serve. Through transparency and response, businesses will be held to a high standard and can use this time of flux as an opportunity to strengthen and solidify their brand. It's an exciting time to be in advertising. Thanks for the forum. Great post. Best, M.

I’m going to dust off my fine arts degree for a moment to draw comparison to what I see social media as becoming.
