The MBA programs which began the sustainability movement, like the Green MBA in Sustainable Enterprise at Dominican University, have been fighting an uphill battle for nearly a decade. Thanks for this article and let's keep up the pressure!

It’s encouraging to see pressure being placed on traditional MBA programs to start thinking more broadly, more long-term, and beyond just profit motives. I am a candidate in a top 100 Executive MBA Program and recently met with the Dean of the College to ask some similar questions. I thought with 3 decades in the field of Environmental Economics he'd have something substantial to offer. I was so disappointing in his resistance to the notion that businesses could help implement change. He seemed to have surrendered all of the power of business to their stockholders and their government.

I was so excited when I saw this post I had to wait a full day to read it so that I could make sure to give it my full attention. I finished in the mid 70s with what is now referred to as "whole systems design. It was a fight believe me. My thesis was "change in organizations", cross-cultural management. Considering that I was also taking Futures for Bus & Gov from Art Shostack I was really somewhere ahead of the pack. Of course this has helped in my work as a health advocate but still most in mgt and most with MBAs still don't get the concepts that there is a biological correlation in business and that actually people do matter.

I took a graduate MBA program at the time I was taking a graduate nursing program.
