Prize philanthropy is an emerging model. Idea Crossing (a company I founded 7 years ago) has powered several philanthropic innovation prizes. One was a $300K prize for increasing physical activity in kids and most recently a $2.2MM prize for renewable energy for Masdar City in Abu Dhabi.
