I would just worry that this system would eliminate many jobs. The robots still take power (electricity I presume). Is it “green” because the workers who’s jobs have been eliminated are not driving to work?

Sorry I had to repost because of spelling errors.<br

In a nutshell: Crate and Barrel recognizes that Kiva robots are a cost-effective way to pick, pack and ship. But, once Crate and Barrel starts using the automated system, the company is betting it will see sustainability benefits, as well. As I outlined in the article, green advantages seem likely, but Crate and Barrel is the first Kiva customer that will be specifically on the lookout for these benefits. I think both Kiva and Crate and Barrel would like to be able to answer your questions in detail; however, the companies are only beginning the process of gathering the data.

Sorry for the confusion. Has the supply chain for the manufacture of the robotic line been investigated for it's sustainability? Were any design choices made to include sustainability? Has the life cycle analysis been done that shows that less energy is used during the creation and use of this method vs. the traditional method of warehousing? The article says they are excited to be collaborating with Crate and Barrel to prove the green benefits. What are they specifically doing with Crate and Barrel ? Am I missing something?

I don't understand from this article how this robotic system is more sustainable than any other robotic line?
