Building a sustainable global economy through travel

Travel is a two edged sword when it comes to sustainability. On one hand, the carbon footprint of airlines adds to earth’s global warming woes while all too often the economic benefits of travel are confined to global hotel chains. On the other hand, the societal benefits of seeing the world and learning about new cultures is priceless. Better technology has improved travel’s carbon footprint and eco-tourism has allowed local communities and environments to benefit from tourist dollars more directly.
