Habitat Jam Offers Online Discussion of Urban Issues Dec 1-3

HabitatJAM-logo.gifThe Government of Canada, in partnership with IBM and UN-HABITAT, have put together a 72-hour online event in preparation for the World Urban Forum, to be held enxt summer in Vancouver. It's called "Habitat Jam" and it'll basically be a, dare I say, jam session about urban issues - poverty, water, sustainability, safety, and business. You can register to participate for free right here.

At corporate communications firm that I work for as my day job, we helped IBM develop the concept of the...shudder...groan..."jam." Despite the ubermarketingspeak nature of the name, the actual implementation has worked out quite well. IBM has been regularly holding worldwide jams internally as a means of sharing ideas throughout the company to great success.

It's weird to see this aspect of my salary-earning life cross paths with the sustainability nerd side of my life, but I'm really stoked to participate in this...urp..."jam."

Thanks for the post.

Thank you so much for your support of Habitat JAM. (Disclaimer: I am a PR rep at IBM, one of the event's sponsors).

To help everyone better understand what they will experience when they participate in this worldwide event Dec. 1-3, today IBM released a podcast, “IBM and the Future of our Cities," featuring a discussion between Charles Kelly, commissioner general of the World Urban Forum III, which is using the Habitat JAM to help develop the agenda for its June conference in Vancouver and Mike Wing of IBM, who leads IBM’s jamming activities internally.

The podcast can be dowloaded at http://www.ibm.com/investor/viewpoint/podcast/16-11-05-1.phtml.

And don't forget to register in advance at www.habitatjam.com.
