One Million Hybrids A Year - Toyota's New Plan
Given last week's surge in oil prices at the pump, more Americans can be counted on to explore hybrid vehicle options. Toyota plans to capitalize on this development by introducing a hybrid option for every model they make by 2010. Toyota President, Katsuaki Watanabe, recently made this announcement as part of Toyota's plan to become a socially and environmentally responsible corporation.
In addition to putting more hybrid vehicles on the market, Toyota has expressed intent to create a manufacturing plant in Mississippi that is a "model of sustainable practices." Toyota is also currently developing cellulosic ethanol and lithium-ion batteries for other types of alternative transportation vehicles.
This is a very positive development for the green car industry. Hopefully, Toyota will introduce plug-in hybrid models in the near future as well.
