Hayward, Calif. — August 21, 2013: ATDynamics, the leading global supplier of semi-trailer rear-drag aerodynamics technology, today announced that it has been named to Inc. magazine’s prestigious 32nd annual list of America’s fastest-growing private companies – the Inc. 500.
The list represents the most comprehensive look at the most important segment of the economy – America’s independent entrepreneurs. Companies such as Microsoft, Zappos, Intuit, Jamba Juice, Zipcar, Clif Bar, Vizio, Oracle, and many other well-known names gained early exposure as members of the Inc. 500│5000.
“We are thrilled to be named to this year’s Inc. 500 list and to be in the company of so many other entrepreneurs contributing to America’s economic growth,” said Andrew Smith, CEO of ATDynamics. “The faster we grow, the faster we will achieve our mission to increase the fuel efficiency of tractor-trailers with our TrailerTail® technology and decrease global dependence on fossil fuels.”
ATDynamics’ flagship TrailerTail product line is now seen on highways daily by Americans across the continental United States. TrailerTails are installed on the back of tractor-trailers to streamline airflow behind the trailer, reducing aerodynamic drag and fuel consumption by 6.6 percent at 65 mph.
Using a patented origami folding design, TrailerTails collapse automatically out of the way when a driver opens the rear doors of a semi-trailer to access cargo. The devices can be installed by two people in less than one hour and every TrailerTail installed offsets approximately the equivalent fuel consumption of removing one passenger vehicle from the road. The devices enhance vehicle safety by improving vehicle stability in high winds and reducing spray in wet weather.
“Not all the companies in the Inc. 500 │5000 are in glamorous industries, but in their fields they are as famous as household name companies simply by virtue of being great at what they do. They are hidden champions of job growth and innovation, the real muscle of the American economy,” says Inc. magazine Editor Eric Schurenberg.
To make the Inc. 500 list, companies had to have achieved a minimum of 918.59% in sales growth. The companies on this year’s Inc. 500 employ more than 52,100 people and generated over 44, 912 jobs in the past three years.
Retrofitting the 4 million high mileage semi-trailers currently in operation worldwide with TrailerTail technology will reduce global oil demand by $40 billion over the next decade. Based on current market adoption trends, ATDynamics projects that US trucking fleets will deploy over 50,000 TrailerTails by the end of 2014.
The 2013 Inc. 500|5000 is ranked according to percentage revenue growth when comparing 2009 to 2012. To qualify, companies must have been founded and generating revenue by March 31, 2009. They had to be U.S.-based, privately held, for profit, and independent—not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies—as of December 31, 2012. (Since then, a number of companies on the list have gone public or been acquired.) The minimum revenue required for 2009 is $100,000; the minimum for 2012 is $2 million. Companies on the Inc. 500 are featured in Inc.’s September issue. They represent the top tier of the Inc. 5000, which can be found at www.inc.com/500.
