The Eco-Friendly Building Materials Boom

In the past, when a new building need to be constructed for business, the company probably didn’t put much attention into what types of materials were used. In today’s market, many companies are taking a more proactive role in choosing the building materials that are used for their places of business. Many of these companies are choosing eco-friendly building materials, which has completely changed the landscape of the construction industry. There are many different eco-friendly building materials that a business could potentially use to construct its place of business, which can save the company money and help the environment.

Flooring 

One area in which eco-friendly building materials have become commonplace is in commercial flooring. There are several different flooring options for businesses that are friendly for the environment. For example, instead of going with hardwood flooring, many businesses opt for bamboo. Bamboo plants grow much faster than trees, which makes it a much more renewable resource.

Some businesses are also looking to go with laminate flooring, which is made from compressed pieces of wood waste in many cases. This makes it possible to reduce the amount of waste and use as much of the tree as possible when making flooring.  Even several types of commercial carpet are now made with environmentally friendly materials.

For example, some commercial carpets are made out of recycled plastic bottles. Many companies are also electing to go with carpet squares for  commercial applications. This makes it possible to replace only a single square if one is damaged, instead of having to replace the whole floor. This cuts down on the amount of carpet that is wasted in the long-term.

Roofing 

It comes to building an environmentally friendly place of business, many companies are also looking at different types of roofing materials. It doesn’t use harsh chemicals, and it can last for many years without any problems. It cuts down on the amount of waste from commercial roofs, and it is good for the environment.

They look just like regular shingles, but they have photovoltaic cells inside which produce solar power. This helps offset some of the energy needs of the business, and can sometimes completely eliminate the need to buy electricity from the grid. Smarter Devices 

Many of the materials inside of a commercial building can be made to consume less electricity or natural resources. For example, many companies are now implementing electrical systems that reduce the flow of electricity when certain parts of the building are not being used. When workers go home for the day, the system automatically shut off the electricity to the computers and peripheral equipment that is attached. This significantly reduces the amount of electricity that needs to be used. Lights in the building can also be set up to turn off on their own when no one is around.

Many businesses are also using sinks and toilets that utilize less water. By using motion sensors on both, they can reduce the amount of water that is consumed throughout the day.

All of these advancements have the potential to reduce that businesses have on the environment. When constructing a new building, implementing any of these materials could make a big difference overall.
