Bay2Rio+20 is in Rio de Janeiro to cover the UN Rio+20 Earth Summit. Much has happened in the area of sustainable development in the 20 years since the first Earth Summit in Rio in 1992. We will be on the ground reporting on innovations in urban sustainable development work by governments, private corporations, NGOs and their partnerships.
Additionally, Bay2Rio+20 will use their Earth Summit Innovation Bus as a launch platform for a series of initiatives that align with two primary themes of the conference, the green economy in the context of poverty eradication and sustainable development. We will highlight creative approaches for environmental stewardship, social justice and poverty eradication happening in the Bay Area, Rio de Janeiro and beyond.
The delegation, representing the Bay Area at the summit, will create an information bridge to foster dialogue with Bay Area entrepreneurs, professionals, advocate groups, or anyone else who would like to participate in the summit virtually. Local gatherings and activities during and following the 2012 Earth Summit will help build momentum and strengthen cooperation and economic development ties between Brazil and the Bay Area for later initiatives focusing on the 2013 America’s Cup, the 2014 World Cup, the 2016 Olympics and beyond.
