Powered by renewables

Along with building-integrated photovoltaics, this 10 MW solar plant provides carbon-free, renewable power to Masdar City. Situated just outside the city limits, the plant is already generating more energy than Masdar City can use – providing extra power to the local grid.

As the city expands, Masdar hopes to increase renewable energy generation with off-site solar projects throughout the Abu Dhabi desert. Masdar Institute researchers are also looking into algae-based fuels, tidal wave energy and geothermal power as potential sources of electricity for the city.
