Today, SAP, Natalie Warne, and TriplePundit came together at #TheWorldYouWantToLiveIn to discuss how millennials are challenging “the system” and modern society as we know it.
Millennials are widely known for their rebelliousness toward norms and institutions, a self-centered focus, and their tendency to choose meaning over traditional pursuits such as career or money. But millennials are the most educated generation in history. Their lifestyles demand action and ambition through nontraditional means. They may shun higher education in pursuit of worldly travels or picking up programming skills (and the college dropout may be more “successful” than the graduate).
Millennials offer great promise as digitally native, philanthropic, business-minded world citizens. Most importantly, the companies that can attract and leverage millennial talent will soon have an advantage over those that don’t.
During #TheWorldYouWantToLiveIn, we discussed the following, and much more:
Natalie Warne (@NatalieWarne) - Producer, activist and TED speaker on youth activism.
Inspired at school by the Invisible Children organization, she put college on pause to fight for a cause she believed in. “Call it irresponsible or crazy, but it would have been insane not to do something.” Being such a young activist was a hidden strength, as she was too young to think anyone could stop her. She managed to bring her cause to Oprah’s attention and get a bill signed into law by Congress and the President that would help end a war, rescue abducted children and redefine justice in Central East Africa. She believes: No one is too young to change the world. Social justice is not measured in photo perfect moments but in the everyday work that thousands of people put in to make something happen. Anonymous Extraordinaries are people who work selflessly and tirelessly for what they believe in, people who who are motivated by their convictions rather than recognition. Part of one of the largest non-profit movement of our generation, TED talk speaker. Currently living in Los Angeles pursuing a career in film.
