We are very excited to host an exclusive interview series conducted by branding firm BBMG entitled, aptly, The Green Room. The series is hosted by BBMG founding partner and chief creative officer Mitch Baranowski. Each episode features a candid exchange with one guest about the issues behind scaling sustainability and driving social innovation.

In the first episode, Mitch sits down with Tom Szaky, TerraCycle’s co-founder and CEO, to discuss how the upcycler finds new garbage streams, captures new markets, and generally builds a waste diversion empire.

  1. I taught Tom art in high school. He won the art prize because he was so imaginative, industrious and daring. Nothing has changed. I think he would have been just as successful in any area he chose, but I am glad he is doing what is is doing. His intelligence and articulate repartée made the art studio a better place, and now has set his sights on the world. You deserve a bigger prize, Tom :)

  2. Terracycle is awesome. And so is Conserve India, an upcycling NGO based in Delhi. They help people climb out of poverty while making fashion accessories out of trashed polythene bags, old denims and rubber tires, seat belts and Indian saris. Check them out at

Thanks for such an inspiring interview, Mitch. It is a terrific start to a great series and I look forward to more episodes from The Green Room.
