HP Wins Best Report in CR Reporting Awards 2011

HP won best report in the fourth annual Corporate Responsibility Reporting Awards 2011 (CRRA 2011) for its 2009 report, Changing the Equation, HP Global Citizenship Report 2009. Runners up for best report included Coca-Cola Enterprises Inc. and Bayer AG. Winners were announced on March 24, 2011 at the Royal Society in London. The awards were organized by CorporateRegister.com, and covered reports published between September 2009 and September 2010. A total of 90 companies entered their reports in nine categories, with one winner and two runners up for each category. The voting occurred between October 28, 2010 and January 28, 2011. All registered users of CorporateRegister.com were eligible to vote, and each voter could choose up to five reports per award. The CRRA 2011 report, available to download for free for a limited time, included selected voters comments on HP’s report:
“HP has progressed into a front runner on sustainability reporting. It brings a human face to reporting by personalizing stories and using technology to best advantage to bring stories to life.” CSR Consultant, U.K. “While this is a very long report is it also thorough and transparent. It clearly connects sustainability to business strategy and provides good examples of how the company addresses key challenges.” CSR Consultant, U.S. “A highly focused, interactive report that makes innovative use of technology to improve the user experience.” CSR Consultant, U.S.
Virgin Group Ltd won the best first time report, with McGraw Hill Companies Inc and Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co as the runners up.
“This is a wonderfully designed think piece that captures one’s attention to the subject matter. Straying away from the norm ‘report’ makes this my first choice.” Corporate CSR Professional, U.S. “This report is a very good attempt for a first time reporter.” Corporate CSR Professional, South Africa
Other winners included:
  • Best SME report—Pacific Hydro Pty Limited
  • Best integrated report—Natura Cosmeticos SA
  • Best Carbon disclosure—Vodafone Group plc
  • Creativity in communications—Virgin Group Ltd
  • Relevance & materiality—SABMiller plc
  • Openness & honesty—Novo Nordisk A/S
  • Credibility through assurance—Co-operative Group Limited
“We’ve seen CR reporting increase every year, with 2010 showing the strongest performance yet – nearly 5,000 reports worldwide. With so many companies reporting, we need a process to identify the reports which lead where others will follow. The CRRA provides this process, and once again we have a suite of worthy winners,” said CorporateRegister.com’s Paul Scott. CorporateRegister.com is hosting two online debates. The two debate topics are “In future, all good CR reporting will be integrated” and “XBRL will be vital for CR reporting.”
