Reader Survey: the Results are in!

By Jen Boynton
In the world of media, we get a sense of who you, our readers, are from your comments as well as from which posts get the most traffic. November and October were both record traffic months for us in general, so we know we're doing something right. However, we can only estimate. A couple months ago, Sustainable Industries and TriplePundit sent out a reader survey to uncover the basics about who you are and what you care about. Lots of things were as we suspected, but there were also a few surprises. Here are the basics. You are:
  • Just about evenly split between men and women
  • In the prime of your careers, age-wise (67 percent are between 31-60)
  • Extremely educated (72 percent have more than a bachelor's degree)
  • Sustainability professionals (87 percent of you to be specific. 19 percent have more than 10 years experience in the field!
You work in every industry and department under the sun. We gave you 20 options for describing your industry and you selected all of them. We also had over 40 write-in candidates. Just like the rest of America, many of you work for small businesses (61 percent work for a company with less than $10 million in annual revenue). What do you care about?
  • 83 percent of you read us to keep abreast of the latest sustainability news and analysis.
  • You are most interested in news about: large enterprise sustainability, small enterprise sustainability, responsible products and services you can use at work, clean tech, and sustainable branding and communication
  • you would like us to offer more case studies, white papers and webinars, and we're working on it
What do you think of us? You called TriplePundit "fun," "forward thinking" and "smart." You called Sustainable Industries "an authority on sustainability," "respected," and "helpful at work." We had an inkling that our brands represented different, complementary, aspects of the sustainability conversation and we were pleased to see that you see us the same way we see ourselves. You also gave us dozens of suggestions for how to move forward from the merger, and those were extremely helpful for us. We'll be sifting through them in the coming weeks to determine post-merger priorities. We'll keep you posted! Congratulations to Chip Wood from Scientific Certification Systems for winning our collection of sustainable business books. Special thanks to Jacquie Ottman who donated an autographed copy of her book, The New Rules of Green Marketing, to the prize pack.
