Study pinpoints seven leaders in property advice field

By 3p Contributor

Seven companies are about to ‘dominate’ the UK’s sustainability advisory services market in the real estate industry, reports the global research consultancy Verdantix.

The study into UK real estate advisers found that CB Richard Ellis, Cushman & Wakefield, Deloitte, DTZ, GVA, Jones Lang LaSalle and King Sturge are best placed to capitalize on the increasing demand for sustainability solutions in the sector.

Verdantix says the seven companies excel in providing sustainability-friendly brokerage and agency services, corporate finance, valuation, planning and development, design and build, project management, and facilities management. It concludes that ‘leading advisory firms have embedded sustainability across all service lines’.

Other companies, including BNP Paribas and Lambert Smith Hampton, were said to be lagging behind.

Ray Crowley, industry analyst at Verdantix, said: ‘Regulation, such as the European Union’s Energy Performance of Buildings Directive and part L of the UK’s building regulations, puts sustainability on everyone’s real estate agenda as real estate investors, developers and occupiers strive to improve the sustainability performance of their buildings.

‘It’s the long-term risk of building obsolescence, caused by legislation and changing occupier demand, which makes sustainability a key driver in buy side real estate long-term decision-making.

‘Clients need to factor in sustainability risks even where they aren’t currently priced into the market – and this is where savvy real estate advisory firms can add value. This year marks the beginning of a market shift for real estate advisors. Sustainability advice embedded across all service lines will become the norm.’

Centrica, EDF Energy, E.ON Energy and RWE npower are the power utilities best positioned to provide UK businesses with sustainable energy supply and services, a new Verdantix report has concluded. The study compared 13 power utilities operating in the UK on 37 assessment criteria.
