Concerns about farm animal welfare have prompted the Business Benchmark on Farm Animal Welfare to start an evaluation of animal management. A previous lack of agreement on ways to manage farm animal welfare-related issues has hampered any discussion between investors and companies. Now the Business Benchmark on Farm Animal Welfare, funded by Compassion in World Farming and the World Society for the Protection of Animals, has been established to create a benchmark of best practice for the management of farm animals. The first benchmark, due this year, will indicate how major food companies are managing farm animal welfare issues in their businesses and supply chain. The benchmark will be updated each year.
