Burma reaches deal with ILO

The Burmese government has reached a new memorandum of understanding with the International Labor Organization (ILO) on stamping out forced labour. Extending an existing understanding, the Burmese government, long accused of systematic human rights violations, including human trafficking and child labour, will now implement slave labour laws and provide a complaint mechanism for victims of forced labour. A new Labour Organisation Law protecting workers’ rights also came into force this month.
