More than 15,000 South African miners have returned to work for mining company Gold Fields, ending a long-running strike there. Another 1,500 miners who failed to return for work have lost their jobs. However, industrial unrest continues at several other gold mines, mainly over pay, with police arresting 40 strikers last month who had seized millions of dollars worth of equipment at Anglo American’s Kumba Iron Ore mine in Northern Cape Province.
