The Israeli government has taken the unusual step of ranking the most polluting companies operating within its borders. The Tel Aviv-100 index, which rates businesses based on the extent to which they adhere to environmental regulations, deemed Granite Hacarmel, Israel Chemicals, Delek Group and Paz Oil to be the worst offenders in the country, though its tack has drawn criticism from industry. The Manufacturers Association of Israel said the move “hurts industry and will actually serve as a disincentive for companies to protect the environment”. A list of firms performing well on their environmental impact was also published.
