A Carbon Trust report says the UK’s fuel-cell sector is close to developing breakthroughs in polymer fuel cells, which could significantly cut cost, the biggest barrier to wide-scale deployment of the technology. The trust says that with adequate investment, fuel-cell cars could be cost competitive with their internal combustion engine equivalents by 2050.
