Barclays in the dock again

By 3p Contributor

Barclays, rescued in 2008 with £7bn mainly from Qatar and Abu Dhabi, has been accused of misleading its shareholders after it emerged that Sheikh Mansour, the Manchester City soccer club owner who was supposed to be contributing half of the funds, actually switched his investment to an Abu Dhabi government vehicle. Barclays withheld the information until the switch was confirmed and continued to name Mansour as an investor in its 2008 and 2009 annual reports. Barclays blamed ‘a drafting error’.
