Darren Beck is Sprint's director of Environmental Initiatives. In our second Sprint interview from Fortune Brainstorm Green 2013, Darren talks about the problem of lead acid batteries which are used as backup power for cell towers and data centers. It's a problem that wasn't fully understood until Darren's team had a chance to investigate - looking at both the disposal of the batteries as well as their initial manufacturing process upstream in the supply chain. The result is a far deeper understanding of how lead-acid batteries can be responsibly dealt with and a plan to ensure 100% responsible disposal.
