By 3p Contributor

Bastian Buck has been appointed director sustainability reporting standard at the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).
In the role, Buck will lead the ongoing development and implementation of GRI’s Sustainability Reporting Framework as it prepares to become a formal international standard setting body.

As well as leading on the strategy and development of the Guidelines, Buck will have ultimate responsibility for the operational management of GRI’s Sustainability Reporting Standards department.

After more than seven years with GRI and the recent successful completion of G4 – the fourth generation of GRI’s Sustainability Reporting Guidelines –Buck brings in-depth institutional knowledge of GRI’s technical development history, a detailed understanding of the sustainability reporting landscape, and longstanding experience with GRI’s multi-stakeholder approach. He is a member of the Technical Taskforce of the International Integrated Reporting Council and has spoken publicly on sustainability reporting in more than 40 countries. He will report to GRI Chief Executive Ernst Ligteringen.

Chief executive Ernst Ligteringen said: “Having played a key role in the successful development and launch of G4, Mr. Buck is ideally qualified to take the GRI Framework forward as sustainability reporting becomes ever more mainstream for organizations across the globe.

“His in-depth experience and expertise in global corporate non-financial disclosure practices and trends, and his proven track record in the management and facilitation of international multi-stakeholder processes, will prove a major asset as GRI moves into a new phase as an international standard-setter, in order to better fulfill its mission to make corporate transparency and accountability standard practice.”
