MBA Polymers wins 'Nobel Prize of Sustainability'

By 3p Contributor

MBA Polymers, the world-leading multinational plastics recycling and technology company, has been announced as the winner of the 2013 Katerva Award.

The Katerva Awards recognise innovations with the greatest potential to advance the planet toward sustainability and are sometimes referred to as the 'Nobel Prize of Sustainability.

Winners receive substantial legal, business, and operational support from a number of distinguished companies and individuals from the Katerva Winners’ Circle, helping them move quickly from innovation to solution.

MBA Polymers has developed breakthrough waste separation technology and has grown to become what is now the world’s primary company recovering plastic from large complex waste streams such as end-of-life cars, computers, electronic appliances and recently household waste.

MBA Polymer's chief executive Nigel Hunton commented, “We are absolutely delighted to have won this prestigious award. We have just received new funding from our investors which will allow us to further develop our business and move to the next stage of commercialising our process and products. We aim to become a company making proper commercial returns as well as providing significant environmental benefits. That’s the mix which will ultimately provide us with the profitable base from which we will grow in the future and we’re confident that help from Katerva will assist us on that journey.”

Terry Waghorn, founder and ceo of Katerva added: “Many of today's sustainability challenges overwhelm conventional approaches. They require disruptive innovation as well as the ability to scale rapidly. Katerva is designed to recognise that and to catalyse and accelerate breakthrough solutions.”
