As Milan Fashion Week kicks off, campaigners are calling on Benetton to contribute at least $5m into the Rana Plaza Donors Trust Fund following the fashion brand's long-awaited commitment to contribute last week.
Campaigners from the Clean Clothes Campaign will take part in events across Europe calling on Benetton to stop delaying payments to the Rana Plaza victims by immediately contributing at least $5m into the Rana Plaza Donors Trust Fund.
The actions will kick off today in Belgium where activists will participate in a die-in protest in front of the Benetton flag ship store in Brussels. In Milan on February 28, activists will gather in Piazza Duomo.
Benetton has been the target of sustained campaigning since the Rana Plaza Donors Trust Fund was launched in early 2014. The Rana Plaza building collapsed on 24 April 2013.
At the end of last week Benetton announced that it was committing to paying into the Fund, but according to the company's statement it is delaying making a decision on an amount, instead contracting an 'independent' third party to advise on a sum.
