RECAP: Twitter Chat with Hormel Foods - #Hormel3pChat

By Marissa Rosen

Today, Hormel Foods engaged in a conversation with TriplePundit about a wide variety of topics at #Hormel3pChat. This special Twitter Chat focused on how Hormel Foods is meeting sustainability goals through employee engagement and highlighted its internal awards called the “Best of the Best.”

Hormel Foods was recently recognized on the 16th annual Corporate Responsibility (CR) magazine 100 Best Corporate Citizens List for the seventh consecutive year. One way Hormel Foods achieves results is through its unique employee engagement programs. Annually, Hormel Foods rewards and recognizes internal teams through its internal Environmental Sustainability, Best of the Best, and Innovation Best of the Best competitions.

In 2013, the Environmental Sustainability Best of the Best winner was Century Foods International, recognized for projects that reached a recycle rate of 93 percent and zero-waste-to-landfill status at all four of its plants. In 2014, the Beijing HFC Plant in China was named the winner for its energy conservation project that reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 60 percent from the previous year. In addition, the company’s foodservice BACON 1 team was named the Innovation Best of the Best winner for successfully creating the only fully-cooked bacon on the market today that performs like raw bacon.

A few of the many topics we explored during the #Hormel3pChat conversation included:

  • The company’s employee engagement Best of the Best programs

  • Winning Best of the Best project results and highlights

  • How Hormel Foods surpassed its 2020 solid waste goal in 2014
