Juliet Davenport OBE, founder and ceo of the 100% renewable electricity supplier Good Energy has been appointed to the Council of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC).
NERC is the UK’s leading commissioner of environmental science research, investing £330m each year in cutting-edge research, postgraduate training and innovation in universities and research centres. Its scientists study and monitor Earth’s physical, chemical and biological processes - from pole to pole and from below the Earth’s surface and oceans to the atmosphere and space.
Davenport said: “The work that NERC does is absolutely fundamental to providing understanding and insight into the ongoing and ever increasing environmental challenge we face as a society.”
“I am extremely proud to be part of an organization that has funded projects, and did some of the original science, on the Ozone layer. Today, it’s working on areas as diverse as extreme flooding and the impacts of certain farming methods on wild bumblebees.”
Minister for Universities & Science Jo Johnson announced the appointment along with four other new members’ to NERC’s Council.
Council members have corporate responsibility for all NERC’s actions and those of its staff. They decide on NERC’s strategic priorities and performance objectives, financial management and deployment of major resources.
